EMC - Electromagnetic Compatibility

EMC stands for electromagnetic compatibility and describes the ability of devices to operate without being disrupted by electromagnetic radiation or to avoid disrupting other devices. Lights with EMC labeling are protected against electromagnetic effects, such as those caused by high-frequency electromagnetic energy from electrical devices. This energy can be radiated or transmitted and cause interference in other devices, such as static on the radio or even malfunctions. The so-called signal-to-noise ratio—that is, the distance between electronic products—influences the likelihood of such interference.

To prevent this, the EMC of lighting fixtures is tested, for example, by the VDE Testing Center or TÜV. In Germany, lighting fixtures must comply with European standards, which is ensured through testing. EMC compliance is mandated by law under the Radio Protection Act, so consumers can be confident that lighting fixtures available in the EU meet these requirements. This ensures both interference-free operation and the protection of other electrical devices.
