Constant-light control

Constant light control is used to keep the lighting level—or illuminance—in a room exactly constant at all times. For example, on a sunny day when a particularly large amount of light is streaming through the windows, the artificial lighting is dimmed. Conversely, if it’s already getting dark outside and only a small amount of sunlight is entering the room, the lights inside will brighten again to ensure that the lighting remains constant throughout the day. Constant light control works using sensors and occupancy detectors, which constantly compare actual conditions with target values and automatically adjust the artificial lighting as needed. They measure both the incoming daylight and the lighting within the room—this way, the lights do not always have to operate at maximum brightness. The sensors should be positioned so that, even in very deep rooms, they detect light far from the window, and the lights in the center of the room provide correspondingly more brightness than those located directly by the window. Light adjustment is then usually handled by a built-in dimmer. This type of constant light control is frequently used in commercial and office buildings, as it not only ensures consistent brightness for employees but also results in significant energy savings.
