The Interior Trends 2026: An Interview with Designer Anja Gödecke
Anja Gödecke talks about the interior trends that await us in 2026. The designer also reveals how to bring a sense of well-being into your rooms.

The Accent lighting is used to create targeted lighting accents in a room. It highlights specific areas, objects, or architectural elements and deliberately draws the eye to selected details. Unlike general lighting, accent lighting does not focus on illuminating the entire space, but rather on emphasizing individual, distinctive elements.
Typical applications include highlighting wall surfaces, paintings, sculptures, shelves, or unique pieces of furniture.
For accent lighting, fixtures with a narrow beam angle—typically between about 10° and 40°—are generally used. A narrow beam angle produces a clearly defined beam of light and high illuminance in the illuminated area.
The smaller the beam angle, the more concentrated the light becomes. This creates distinct contrasts between the illuminated object and its surroundings.
In addition to the Beam angle The position of the light fixture also plays a crucial role. If the light source is close to the object, the Beam of light narrower. As the distance increases, the beam widens and covers a larger area.
Precise placement is important to fully illuminate the desired object without creating unwanted shadows or unnecessarily brightening adjacent areas.
The following are particularly suitable for accent lighting:
These lights allow for precise light control and controlled alignment of the light beam.
Accent lighting uses varying illuminance levels and deliberate contrasts. To ensure that an accent is clearly visible, the illuminance in the accented area should be higher than that of the general lighting.
It is this difference in brightness that creates a visual hierarchy in the space. The combination of general lighting, accent lighting, and, where appropriate, mood lighting forms the basis for a structured and functional lighting concept.
