"On sloping ceilings, a designer’s true skill is revealed. Where architecture presents a challenge, special care and creativity are required to harmoniously combine light and shadow. It is not just about installing a lamp, but about creating an atmosphere in which form and function are in perfect balance."
A harmonious interior design concept does not rely solely on choosing the right furniture or colour tones.
Targeted lighting can transform spaces, create accents and provide the right atmosphere. Pendant lights for sloping ceilings, especially gallery lights, can play a central role here. But what if you have a sloping ceiling?
Is installing a pendant light on a sloping ceiling more complicated in such cases, or even impossible? The good news first: You can do it, and we will help you!
A sloping ceiling is undoubtedly a particular challenge, but with the right preparation and suitable tools, it can be mastered. The key to success here lies in the so-called canopy.
This unobtrusive component, often referred to as a ceiling fitting or rosette, is the link between the light and the ceiling.
It not only conceals the cables and the mounting fixture, but also ensures that the lamp hangs securely. There are specially designed lamp canopies to which pendant lights and hanging lights can be mounted individually. So that these do not collide in the open space on a sloping ceiling, the lamp size must be chosen correctly!
Our canopies make it possible for the pendant light for sloping ceilings or the pendant light on a sloping ceiling to hang vertically and straight, even if the ceiling runs at an angle.
By the way, these lighting constructions are not particularly heavy either: whether wood, concrete or stucco ceilings - a lighting combination weighing more than 20 or 30 kg is hardly ever the case, and every ceiling can support that, especially since the weight is distributed over a larger area.
If you are faced with the challenge of mounting lights in unusual or complicated places, such as sloped ceilings, we recommend the s.luce Modular XL canopy.
This system not only offers a solid and reliable mounting solution, but also considerable design freedom. With the s.luce Modular XL, you can adapt your lighting to your wishes and the requirements of the room.
Before you begin installing your luminaires, you should carefully determine the exact location for installation. It is important that the luminaire hangs vertically, even on a possibly sloping ceiling, so that it looks both functional and aesthetically pleasing.<\/p>
Safety has top priority: Make sure that the power is completely switched off before you begin installation. A voltage tester can help you make sure that there is truly no voltage present. Another essential step is choosing a canopy that is compatible with your sloped ceiling.
This ensures that the light can be mounted safely and correctly. Make sure to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Depending on the nature of the ceiling, whether concrete, drywall or wood, the appropriate wall plugs and screws must be used to ensure stable and secure fastening.
The choice of wall plugs and screws should be carefully matched to the ceiling material, as different materials require different fixing methods. In addition to the voltage tester, which is used to check whether no current is actually flowing, a drill may also be necessary for setting the wall plugs in the ceiling.
A laser level is not strictly necessary, but it can be very helpful to ensure that the light is positioned exactly.
It is also important to consider the stability of the ceiling. Materials such as plasterboard are generally less load-bearing than solid wood or concrete, which in turn affects the choice of fixing materials. In addition, accessibility can be a challenge.
With some materials, it can be difficult to run cables or set fixing points. In particular, drilling into concrete ceilings requires special drill bits and wall plugs to complete the installation successfully.
The degree of the slope affects how the lamp will hang. You may need special canopies or suspension systems to ensure that the light hangs vertically and not parallel to the slope.
A canopy for sloped ceilings can be a valuable solution here, as it ensures that the light is correctly aligned. The steeper the slope, the more it influences where the lamp should ideally be positioned to achieve the desired lighting effect.
If the power outlet is not in the desired position for the light, you may need to carry out additional wiring work. However, the modular canopies from s.luce offer exactly the advantage of positioning the lights correctly, even if the power outlet is offset.
Gallery lights can significantly shape the character of a room, and sloped ceilings should not be an obstacle to your installation. With the right tools, materials and careful planning, even sloped ceilings can shine in a wonderful light.
