What is the difference between the base and the socket?
The base of a lamp and the version of a lamp are two counterparts that complement each other. Together, they produce a mechanical and electrical contact between the lamp and illuminant, with the base being part of the lamp, while the luminaire recording is installed in a light, for example a pendant lamp.
Which base types are the most common?
At first very few people probably think about it, but this is an important question to select the right LED lamp, for example.
The most common base types are roughly divided into two categories. The Edison socker (e) is a screw bracket known as the plug-in base (G) is inserted into the associated plug-in frame via two wire pins, a so-called bi-pin base. Thus, the socket base does not have a classic screw thread.
In order to be able to distinguish the different base types with each other, they are marked with numbers. With edison socks, such as E27, the number indicates the diameter of the base. In the case of socket, such as G9, the number, on the other hand, specifies the distance between the pencils in millimeters.
