Choosing the right color temperature
The days when light bulbs only came in one light color - warm white - are over. LED lights make it possible to display a wide variety of color temperatures. The light sources have a spectrum range from warm white to neutral white to daylight white.
What is light color anyway?
The color temperature is measured in Kelvin. The lower the Kelvin value, the warmer the color of the light. It sounds somewhat illogical, but unlike degrees Celsius, this is about the color of the light from a self-luminous light source. 1,500 Kelvin corresponds roughly to the warm light of a candle.
Higher values such as 10,000K correspond roughly to a bright blue sky. To create the effect of daylight (around midday), choose values such as 5,000K. Since this light is much cooler, it has a much higher blue content than candlelight - hence the name neutral white.
Distribute the color temperature correctly
Different rooms - different color temperatures. Wherever you want to be awake and fit, neutral white is the best choice. For example, in your study or office. Contrasts can be seen well in this light and it helps you to concentrate on your work. Neutral white is also the optimal choice of light color for the kitchen, your workshop/hobby room or for activities in the bathroom.
In the living room or bedroom, however, warmer light is usually chosen, as this is ideal for creating a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. The color temperature is therefore usually lower here. This means that the red component is stronger, so the light color is similar to that of sunrises or sunsets.
Neutral white light source as pleasant working light
The neutral white color temperature is particularly suitable for utility rooms. It creates an atmosphere similar to daylight. It is pleasantly bright, inviting and offers good color rendering. It is mostly used for work or workshop environments such as offices or study rooms. If you are looking for a more pleasant light temperature for working, lights with a color temperature of around 3,300 - 5,300K are the right choice.
