In damp areas, the right protection class is crucial. The IP number indicates how well a light is protected against water. Here is a brief explanation of the most important protection classes:
- IP20: For indoor use only, no water protection.
- IP44: Splash water protection, e.g. for the bathroom.
- IP65: Protection against water jets, ideal for outdoor areas.
- IP67: Waterproof for temporary submersion.
- IP68: Waterproof for permanent submersion, e.g. for pools.
What should you look out for when buying outdoor recessed lights?
First consider how much space you have for your lights. Especially dimmable LED recessed lights with 230V and low installation depth should be well planned. Before buying, find out about the installation depth and the power source available to you. Shape and color also play an important role - should it be angular lights in stainless steel or round spotlights in white, for example?
LED recessed spotlights with replaceable light sources
Think about whether you want a lot or a little light, whether it should be dimmable or whether you want to change the colors. Permanently installed LEDs can also be a good choice as they are long-lasting and energy-saving. If you opt for controllable light sources, you can operate your lighting conveniently by remote control.
Outdoor recessed LED spotlights 230V - yes or no?
Recessed LED spotlights are available in low-voltage (12V and 24V) or high-voltage (220-230V) versions. Low-voltage lights require a transformer. If you want to dim the lights using a switch, the transformers must be dimmable. Low-voltage luminaires are often safer outdoors.
