Matteo Thun im Interview - Insights, Interview | skapetze®

"Light creates atmosphere!"

In an interview with Skapetze Lichtmacher, the well-known Bolzano star architect and designer Matteo Thun talks about the importance of light in the living area, talks about the latest construction projects in Bavaria and reveals why in these the "patient becomes the guest".

Skapetze Lichtmacher: The current world situation has been tense for years now after Corona and the Ukraine war: Do you fear a possible backwards approach to the realization of large design objects and the willingness to realize them? Bavaria's Prime Minister Söder recently rejected the Munich Concert Hall for the reasons mentioned above

Thun: It certainly depends on the projects. We have the most interesting construction projects in Bavaria - on Lake Chiemsee, Lake Starnberg and Lake Tegernsee. Physical and mental health are the focus of all of these healthcare projects. Fasting, simple, healthy nutrition and self-discovery are the main focus here: the patient becomes the guest.

Skapetze Lichtmacher: With its own brand s.LUCE, Skapetze pursues the strategy of using similar light bodies for a wide range of lamp types (floor/table/wall lamps) and using them in a modular and flexible way, for example in linear glass lamp series such as the s.LUCE Sphere, s.LUCE Fairy or s.LUCE Progress. May we ask you for your opinion on the models in the series?

Thun: Wonderful: classic, simple and adaptable.

Skapetze Lichtmacher: How do you use light in your private living space? What is particularly important to you here?

Thun: I prefer daylight, indirect light and, most of all, candlelight.

Skapetze Lichtmacher: What does the everyday life of a well-known architect look like? A constant jet-set life between Milan, Munich and the major European cities, or something a little quieter?

Thun: On average, I spend three weeks in our office in Milan working with the architecture, interior and design teams - and one week in the Munich office. I prefer to travel from both locations for business reasons, reading on the train if possible. But when I'm there, I prefer to walk. I like the ease of getting around.

Skapetze Lichtmacher: What future projects do you currently have in mind? What are your personal goals for 2022?

Thun: When it comes to light, we are working with Panzeri on a lighting collection dedicated to the Venetian lagoon with flexible elements. A mix of traditionally worked glass and technological innovation.

My personal goal? The next Engadin Ski Marathon!

Skapetze Lichtmacher:Our final question: What do you use as a place of retreat that gives you the opportunity to bring the creativity you need to your current projects? Do you have a secret recipe?

Thun: Walks and hikes in nature.

Skapetze Lichtmacher:Thank you for the interview!
