The different types of emergency lighting
Emergency lighting is becoming increasingly important in the construction of residential and commercial buildings. Especially in apartment buildings, public buildings, shopping centers, theaters or museums, safety lighting must ensure the protection of visitors. Emergency lights are the key point here.
replacement lighting for hospitals
Emergency lighting can also refer to backup lighting in the event of a power failure, for example in hospitals (operating rooms), where light is essential at any time of day or night. This is a special case. The lighting level is usually below the brightness level of normal lighting, but ensures that work and processes can be completed safely even in the event of a power failure.
This type of backup lighting must be guaranteed for at least three hours (independent of the power grid). The nominal operating time for escape routes is one hour. The emergency lights can be operated via battery or an additional emergency power generator. The switch-on time must be less than one second.
safety lighting for escape routes
In our lighting shop we offer you safety lights for escape routes, emergency exits and emergency exits. This type of anti-panic lighting is typically marked and guides visitors immediately to the emergency exits.
These emergency lamps are also important for companies and businesses with many employees. In the event of a fire, chemical accident or other dangerous event, everyone must immediately know where the escape door to the outside is.
Path orientation through safety lights
In the event of accidents or damage of any kind, it is essential to provide orientation for those affected. Emergency lights positioned above or next to the exits allow people to reach the exits quickly and safely and use the escape routes.
These lights are marked with drawn people and arrows pointing in the desired direction.
Reliable manufacturers for emergency lighting
Our branded lighting manufacturer SLV has a wide range of anti-panic lights on offer. Other manufacturers such as ISOLED offer reliable line lights that ensure bright illumination in halls, corridors, basements or escape routes.
These line lights support regular work operations and are particularly protected against dust or smoke as they are particularly visible.
According to DIN EN 1838, the minimum intensity of emergency lighting is at least 1 lux across the width of the escape route. The uniformity of the illuminance may only deviate by 40:1 to ensure that people with visual impairments can also find their way to the rescue location.
The contrast effect in smoke is usually greatly reduced, so basic safety lighting with a specified brightness must be provided.
Guidelines for the correct installation of emergency lights
DIN EN 1838 serves as the basis for emergency lighting. To ensure that the emergency lighting is installed properly and correctly, we have put together the following tips:
- Mount the emergency lights at least 2 m above the ground.
- Escape routes should be illuminated to a width of at least 2 meters.
- Install emergency lights above or next to all emergency exits or escape route doors.
- Near stairs or where the pavement level changes, the distance from the emergency light to the ground must not exceed 2 m.
- Clearly mark changes in direction such as intersections, corridors, hallways, elevators and escape routes.
- Use emergency lights at first aid stations, defibrillators and fire extinguishers.
- At the exit, emergency lights may be mounted a maximum of 2 meters apart.
- Emergency outdoor lights or outdoor safety lights must also help with orientation outdoors.
