A sloped ceiling undoubtedly presents a special challenge, but with the right preparation and appropriate tools, it can be mastered. The key to success lies in the so-called canopy. 

This inconspicuous component, often referred to as a ceiling closure or rosette, is the link between the light fixture and the ceiling.

It not only hides the cables and the mounting device but also ensures that the lamp hangs securely. There are specially designed lamp canopies to which pendant lights and hanging lights can be individually mounted. To ensure that these do not collide in the airspace of the sloped ceiling, the lamp size must be chosen correctly! 

Our canopies allow the hanging lamp for sloped ceilings or the pendant light on a sloped ceiling to hang vertically and straight, even if the ceiling is sloped.

Our tips:

• Use the s.luce Modular canopies in any shape (round or rectangular)

• Determine how many slots you need (for dining table lights to offset the fixtures)

• Decide how large or wide the canopy should be if you use the canopy to "offset" the light to the right spot, regardless of the position of the power outlet

• Choose the color of the canopy (Black / White (standard) or in RAL tone

• Make sure that the lights are not too large depending on the angle of the sloped roof and do not hit the vertical cables

• Decide on the number of fixtures (Recommendation: about 5-8 for tables up to 230 cm)

• Use odd numbers - these usually create a more beautiful picture in the airspace

Before you start installing your fixtures, you should carefully determine the exact location for the installation. It is important that the fixture hangs vertically despite a possibly slanted ceiling to appear both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Safety is the top priority: Make sure that the power is completely turned off before you begin installation. A voltage tester can help you ensure that there is no power present. Another essential step is to select a canopy that is compatible with your slanted ceiling. 

This ensures that the fixture can be mounted safely and correctly. Be sure to always follow the manufacturer's instructions. Depending on the material of the ceiling, whether it is concrete, drywall, or wood, the appropriate anchors and screws must be used to ensure a stable and secure attachment.

Important notes for installation

The selection of anchors and screws should be carefully matched to the material of the ceiling, as different materials require different fastening methods. In addition to the voltage tester, which is used to check that there is indeed no current flowing, a drill may also be necessary to set the anchors in the ceiling. 

A laser level is not strictly necessary, but can be very helpful to ensure that the fixture is positioned accurately.

It is also important to consider the stability of the ceiling to consider. Materials such as drywall are generally less load-bearing than solid wood or concrete, which in turn affects the choice of fasteners. Furthermore, accessibility can pose a challenge.

With some materials, it can be difficult to lay cables or set fastening points. In particular, drilling into concrete ceilings requires special drills and anchors to successfully carry out the installation.

The degree of slope affects how the lamp will hang. You may need special canopies or suspension systems to ensure that the light fixture hangs vertically and not parallel to the slope. 

A canopy for sloped ceilings can be a valuable solution, as it ensures that the light fixture is correctly aligned. The steeper the slope, the more it influences where the lamp should be optimally placed to achieve the desired lighting effect. 

If the power outlet is not in the desired location for the light fixture, you may need to perform additional wiring work. However, the s.luce modular canopies have the advantage of getting the fixtures into the right position, even if the power outlet is offset.

• Use different cable lengths in the sloped ceiling (this distributes the proportion of your lights ideally and leaves space)

• Make sure (depending on the angle of the sloped ceiling) that the glass bodies of your pendant light and hanging lamp match in size & proportion and that a small and a large size follow one another alternately

• Through the slots of the s.luce modular canopy (not shown in the image, see s.luce modular multiple light canopies), you can individually set the distances of the lights to each other by adjusting the suspension in the slot and fix the light with a set screw.
