The lamps of the Italian brand manufacturer FLOS stand for modern, timeless design that convinces in every home from the first moment. Flos was founded in 1962 as a small lighting manufacturer in Merano. The businessmen Dino Gavina and Caesare Cassina were the pioneers. Well-known designers such as the Achille brothers, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Philippe Stark or Jasper Morrison gave the lamps their unmistakable look in the following years. In 1964, Sergio Gadini joined the management team and the Flos headquarters were moved to Bresica. Since 1971, Flos has also had a branch in Germany.

History of FLOS luminaires
Flos is Latin and means flower. And so are the lamps of the Italian manufacturer: unique and timeless. The origin of these extravagant lamps was in 1962 in Merano when Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina founded the company. In 1963, Sergio Gandini joined the duo and took over the management.
Together with the designer brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Tobia Scarpa, the first design lamps were soon created, inspired by the industrial feeling of the new company headquarters in Brescia, near Milan.
in 1972, several Flos lamps were exhibited at the MoMa in New York City, America's most important museum for contemporary art. The exhibition there helped the brand to become even more famous and the triumphal procession of the southern lights began.
Over the years, Flos always paid attention to ensure the quality and uniqueness of the graceful lamps despite the masses of lamps produced and to surprise the lovers of these again and again with new works, which they visibly succeeded in doing.
Also with the introduction of the Flos LED lamps, the manufacturer went with the trend. In the process, the new company Flos Architectural Lighting was founded, which specialised in the lighting of larger areas with the most modern technology.
Until today, the success can be seen in the popularity of the innovative and iconic floor lamps, table lamps, ceiling lamps and wall lamps. Since 1971, Flos has also been represented in Germany with a branch (Regensburg).
Craftsmanship combined with high-quality materials
The Italian Flos designer lamps manage to keep the balance between mass production and uniqueness, visible in the materials used such as glass, textile or even marble, which radiates a cool elegance.
Even with luminaires made of plastic, extreme care and longevity of the products are taken into account. It is not for nothing that "Flos" is the term for high-quality luminaires, be it in offices, hotels, one's own home or also for trade fair lighting and events.
Well-known products & their creators
As mentioned at the beginning, the first designers who started working with Flos were the brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. They created, for example, the balloon-shaped table lamp Gatto (also available as Gatto piccolo in the smaller version), the floor lamp Toio made in industrial style or the impressive ceiling lamp Flos Taraxacum, created by Achille Castiglioni alone.
The Flos Snoopy table lamp, which has a marble base, also comes from her hand. If the question is about a stately table lamp that is perfect for reading evenings or as a piece of jewellery for the noble desk, Snoopy is ready.
Also worthy of mention is the Arco arc lamp, which delighted many friends of noble lamp taste as early as 1962. This floor lamp by Flos has a base made of Carrara marble, the stem is extendable and made of stainless steel. The most impressive thing about this lamp is the big arch, which is very striking and looks accordingly in large rooms.

The Flos Skygarden owes its origin to the designer Marcel Wanders, who conjured the pendant lamp from his pen in 2007.
The design lamp has decorations in the inner lampshade made of mechanically processed plaster cast, which gives the lamp a high-quality appearance and a graceful, delicate touch, thanks to the finely worked out ornaments. The inspiration for this lamp was drawn from old stucco ceiling reliefs. The colour selection includes the tones rust brown, glossy black, matt gold or glossy white.
The Ara lamp designed by Philippe Stark, later called "Miss Sissi", is a global success. This modification of a classic bedside lamp into the modern age is available in many different colours and the reading lamp is in great demand. Philippe Stark said that the name Miss Sissi was given to the lamp because this light source appears in people's minds as soon as they think of a classic lamp.
