General lighting

The general lighting, also called spatial or basic lighting, is used to illuminate a room evenly and sufficiently. For this purpose, lights with a larger beam angle are mostly used around 120 °, as these manage to illuminate large areas with a very wide light cone. The general lighting ensures that the important objects in the room, whose architecture and the people are clearly visible in it.

It dispenses with emphasis and instead serves the overview and orientation, which is why the general lighting tries to compensate for contrasts and only draw soft shadows. Individual areas can therefore also be highlighted with accent lighting- this is usually the case of combinations of accent and general lighting.

We recommend the following values for basic lighting. They are based on mediocre long -term practical experience and various tests that we have carried out independently.

Basic lighting living space / Corridor 100 lm/m²

Basic lighting Kitchen / Bathroom 300 lm/m²

The basic lighting is used by further light sources, such as Table lights in the Living room, Untersching lights in the kitchen or mirror lights in the bathroom.

Example kitchen:

Even space lighting can be achieved by single or assembly panels. LED strips set additional accents for a cooking island, for example. In addition, the work surfaces are equipped with their own workplace lighting.

Overall, this results in general lighting that illuminates the kitchen as a whole and provides an overview. The important areas are also exposed by accent lighting in order to ensure that there is enough light to work. If someone only goes to the kitchen briefly, for example to get something, the general lighting is sufficient. On the other hand, if you want to cook in a certain area, additional lighting is useful there.
