CE mark

The abbreviation CE comes from French and stands for "Conformité Européenne", which means something like European community or European conformity. It is a seal of approval according to the applicable European guidelines and has been in use since the 1980s. In Germany, the CE license plate is also partly known as an EC sign based on the German translation of European Community.

This license plate is, so to speak, a kind of technical passport for a lamp or in general a product within the European Union. CE simply indicates that the lamp meets the basic requirements of the European guidelines.

It is not a safety test mark such as the VDE or GS sign and is not aimed at consumers, but to the authorities. These monitor compliance with the EU Guidelines and CE is the prerequisite that a product may be placed on the market in the EU. It may only be sold within Europe with CE license plates. Ultimately, however, as a consumer or buyer, we do not have to pay attention to this.
