CRI / RA

The color rendering index is specified as CRI (Color Rendering Index) or RA value. The higher the CRI value, the better the color rendering and the more natural the colors appear under the light. This is particularly important in some fields, such as hair salons, because hair coloring is all about nuances—for example, a brown shade should not appear reddish due to the lighting. The CRI value is measured on a scale from 1 to 100, with 100 being the highest rating and representing true-to-life color rendering, similar to that of sunlight. There are also regulations in this area of color rendering; the EU regulation permits only light sources with a CRI or RA value of more than 80 for indoor use. For outdoor lighting or industrial applications, lower values are permitted, with a minimum CRI of 65. If the RA or CRI color rendering index is in the high range, colors will appear natural and be perceived as more pleasant, which is why this factor should definitely be considered when purchasing a light source. Color rendering is thus one of many quality characteristics of light.
