DIN 5035

DIN 5035 is a national standard in Germany governing artificial lighting. Although a European standard (abbreviated as EN), applicable throughout the European Union, has since been introduced, parts of DIN 5035 remain in effect or have been revised. The following overview shows which provisions have been replaced, modified, or remain valid:

  • DIN 5053 Part 1: “Terms and General Requirements” (replaced by DIN EN 12665 in September 2002)
  • DIN 5053 Part 2: “Guidelines for Indoor and Outdoor Workplaces” (replaced by DIN EN 12464-1 and DIN EN 12464-2 as of March 2003)
  • DIN 5053 Part 3: “Lighting in Healthcare” (substantially superseded by DIN EN 12464-1 as of March 2003; DIN 5035-3 was revised in July 2006 as a supplementary national standard)
  • DIN 5053 Part 4: “Lighting of Educational Facilities” (replaced in substantial parts by DIN EN 12464-1 as of March 2003; withdrawn without replacement in August 2007)
  • DIN 5053 Part 5: “Emergency Lighting” (replaced by DIN EN 1838 in July 1999).
  • DIN 5053 Part 6: “Measurement and Evaluation” (effective since November 2006; incorporates parts of DIN EN 12464-1 and DIN EN 12665)
  • DIN 5053 Part 7: “Lighting of Rooms with Computer Workstations” (current edition from August 2004; this edition of the standard incorporates parts of DIN EN 12464-1 and DIN EN 12665)
  • DIN 5053 Part 8: “Workplace Lighting: Requirements, Recommendations, and Testing” (effective since July 2007)
