Downlights

Downlights are compact, usually round ceiling lights that, as the name suggests, emit light downward, creating a cone of light on the floor or wall. They are typically equipped with reflectors or other optical elements and can be installed either recessed into the ceiling or mounted on the surface. Downlights are also available with different light distributions, with the width of the light beam depending on the size of the beam angle. Planning for downlights should be done early on, especially for recessed installations, and particular attention must be paid to the spacing between them, their distance from the wall, and their placement in corners. They are also very well suited for interior lighting in cabinets and display cases to highlight the objects and decorations inside. Downlights are available as LEDs, low-voltage and high-voltage halogen lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, and metal halide lamps. The main consideration for wide-beam light sources and surface-mounted versions is the prevention of glare, which is why reflectors are frequently used. Of course, technical safety must also be taken into account.
