Explosion -protected lights

Explosion-protected lights are often referred to as so-called ex-lights and have a variety of protective properties. This includes the fire protection properties, breach safety of the cover of the lamp and a protection type of at least IP 5x. Only if a lamp all of these properties fulfills it is deemed to be explosive and can be used in the corresponding rooms.

In which areas such ex-lights have to be used and how great the risk of an explosion in them is determined by some standards. DIN EN 50281, DIN EN 60079 and VDE 0165 divide the work areas into different zones, depending on the degree of explosion risk. These include zone 0 (constantly and long -term dangerous), zone 1 (occasionally dangerous) and zone 2 (for a short time dangerous) for flammable gases, fog and vapors. In the case of flammable dust, the zone 20 (long or often dangerous) and zone 21 and 22 (briefly dangerous by occasional swirling) apply. For all of these zones there are then the appropriate and specially made lamps.
