Color rendering index

The color rendering of a lamp is given with the color rendering index, which shows how naturally the colors in the area at the area lighting be reproduced. The abbreviation RA or CRI is used for this index. The color rendering is one of many important quality criteria when buying a lamp, because nobody wants to see the colors of the illuminated objects consumed, unless you illuminate specially with a colored lamp.

The higher the index of the color rendering, the more natural the colors in the area are reproduced, whereby the maximum is worth 100. This corresponds to the one broadcast by the sun daylight and derives from eight test colors. It will be the quality of the color rendering of lamps with the same Color temperature described, whereby a slightly lower ra value does not speak directly against a purchase of this lamp. The artificial light is based both on the location and the Viewing out of. This results in the following typical values:

  • Good to very good color rendering index from RA = 80-90 for living space, school and Office lighting
  • Excellent color rendering index from RA = 90-100 for living space lighting or in lamps for graphics workplaces

In Germany, no luminaires and lamps with a color rendering index of <80.
