Kelvin

Kelvin (abbreviated with K) is a temperature unit in which the Color temperature a lamp is given. The smaller the number, the warmer the lamp. For example, a candle has 1500 Kelvin and thus a very warm light, a warm white Lamps are around 2700 Kelvin up to 3,300 Kelvin. The neutral white light is then in the Kelvin spectrum of 3300 Kelvin up to 5,300 Kelvin and cold white or daylight white light has a value of over 5300 Kelvin.

The special thing about a Kelvin temperature scale is that it is based on the so -called absolute zero point. The Celsius scale, on the other hand, is oriented after freezing water, so 0 Kelvin is equal to -273.15 degrees Celsius. There are only negative values in degrees Celsius, but the Kelvin scale only has positive areas. The temperature steps are then identical to both scales.

In the light area the color temperature and thus the Kelvin number is therefore interesting and important because we are depending on Light color feel different and a different mood is created. Cold white light with a high Kelvin number looks very cool and is therefore suitable for study, for example. Warm white light with a low Kelvin number is then used more often in living or bedrooms, since it has a very cozy effect on us.
