Terminal block

A luster terminal is an insulated connector used to join two electrical cables. The cables are secured with screws, ensuring that the wires are securely connected to one another. These are used in all light fixtures connected to the home’s electrical system—which is almost always the case, except for floor lamps or table lamps that plug directly into an outlet. The design of such a luster terminal is almost self-explanatory, which is why installation is very simple. It consists of a small, non-conductive tube made of ceramic or plastic that holds the stripped cable ends on both sides. The two screws on the top then hold the cables in place and secure them.  Often, several of these luster terminals are connected together to link parallel cables via a central element. However, tried-and-true luster terminals are increasingly being replaced by spring-loaded terminals, as the latter are even easier to use. Although they are usually a bit more expensive, they save you the need for tools and reduce the amount of work involved, because instead of small screws—which require a delicate touch—the cables are simply clamped into place in spring-loaded terminals. A strong spring then holds the assembly together. Overall, however, both spring-loaded terminals and luster terminals fulfill their intended function.
