Power Outlet

A power outlet is the point where electrical cables emerge from the wall or ceiling and a light fixture can be connected. Another term for this power outlet is “light socket.” Such a point is therefore essential for any lighting system, because without it there would be no power for the lights—and thus no light. The term “light socket” for an electrical outlet is somewhat outdated and dates back to very early times, when lamps were still powered by oil or kerosene—or when real candles were used. The term “light socket” was meant literally, as it referred to the spot in the wall where the light actually burned. Although lamps have long since been powered by electricity, the term has nevertheless stuck. Since such an electrical outlet is important for the power supply but isn’t particularly attractive, there are so-called canopy covers, also known as ceiling rosettes. These completely cover the electrical outlet, thereby not only improving the appearance but also providing greater safety. This way, the electrical outlet and the cable connection to the light fixture are protected, and there is no longer any risk of electric shock.
