UGR

UGR means "unified glare rating". This is a procedure that was developed by the lighting commission CIE (Commission International de l´eclairage) to specify the glare of lights worldwide.

The advantage of this new UGR evaluation is that the glare of the entire lighting is taken into account together and not only the light densities of the individual lights. The glare is calculated from a uniformly defined observer position. The UGR reference value for this is specified in DIN EN 12464-1, whereby the following applies: the larger the UGR value, the more likely there is a glare. UGR can take on values between 10 for no glare and 30 for a noticeably physiological glare. In the case of very detailed tasks, the UGR values should therefore be as low as possible.

In addition, the so -called elevation angle with 65, 75 or 85 degrees for luminaire is often given less than 1000 candela per square meter (ratio of light intensity to the surface). This is the border bridge above which the lamp all around has a luminance of these 1000 candela per square meter.

The following UGR values apply when it comes to workplace lighting:

  • Technical drawing: 16 UGR
  • CAD workplace: 19 UGR
  • Traffic zones and copy: 19 UGR
  • Writing, reading and data processing: 19 UGR
  • Conference and meeting rooms: 19 UGR
  • Reception: 22 UGR
  • Archive: 25 UGR
