Alternatives for the main light source without having to drill:

When it comes to large light sources, floor lamps without drilling are the perfect choice. They can even replace the main light source in a room in many situations – provided they are chosen and placed correctly. Especially in rental apartments, where no ceiling lamp can be attached without drilling or drilling holes is prohibited, they are a clever and flexible alternative.

Thanks to their size and the ability to direct the light precisely, floor lamps ensure even illumination of living and sleeping areas. Depending on the model, a floor lamp with indirect lighting can create a cozy atmosphere, while a reading lamp with direct light perfect for work or reading corners. If a dimmable or adjustable floor lamp is positioned correctly – for example, in a room corner or next to a bright wall that reflects the light – it can easily serve as a main light source without drilling.

Especially in apartments without an existing ceiling light without drilling or for rooms where the existing lighting is insufficient, floor lamps without drilling provide an ideal solution. A major advantage is their flexibility: They can be rearranged as needed and moved to another location at any time.

In addition to classic floor lamps with cables, there are also battery-operated floor lamps, which are completely independent of power outlets. These are particularly practical when there is no nearby power source or when the lamp needs to be moved frequently. Many models also offer smart features such as dimming options, color changes, or app control, allowing the light to be customized individually.

With the right placement and selection of light color, floor lamps without drilling can not only be functional but also a true design statement. They are the ideal solution for anyone who wants to illuminate their rental apartment without drilling and is looking for a flexible alternative to fixed ceiling installations.

“LED strips – the perfect solution for indirect light in rental apartments: flexible without drilling, simply connect, enjoy a stylish atmosphere.”

Are there creative lighting ideas without drilling? Yes – and here are the best solutions!

LED strips are not only perfect for accent lighting, but also a great addition to a main light source.

Thanks to their flexible placement and even light distribution, they provide a pleasant base brightness and create a modern, indirect lighting – ideal for living rooms, kitchens, or bedrooms. Especially in the  kitchen, in the living room, by the bed or behind furniture LED strips are a stylish and functional lighting solution.  Their modern design, easy control via remote or app, and high energy efficiency make them the perfect alternative to conventional lamps.

Why are LED strips ideal for lighting without drilling?

  • Self-adhesive & flexible: Thanks to the practical adhesive backing, LED strips can be easily attached and removed when needed.
  •  Customizable: Many models are cuttable and dimmable, allowing you to adjust them exactly to your needs.
  •  Perfect for indirect lighting: LED strips produce a pleasant, glare-free light – ideal for a cozy atmosphere.
  • Wireless & smart control: Many LED strips can be controlled via app, remote control, or even voice control.
  • Energy-efficient & long-lasting: Modern LEDs consume up to 80% less power than conventional light bulbs and last for years.

LED strips as ideal kitchen lighting

The kitchen is one of the rooms where LED strips are particularly practical. Installed under wall cabinets or along the countertop, they provide a uniform and glare-free illumination of the work surface. At the same time, they create a modern and elegant atmosphere that makes your kitchen shine in a new light.

  • Tips for perfect LED kitchen lighting:
Under the upper cabinets: Provides ideal light for cooking & working.
  • At the base of the kitchen unit: Creates a floating effect & more depth.
  • In open shelves: Stylishly highlights decorative elements.
  • Behind the kitchen backsplash: Creates modern indirect lighting.

Tip: Choose LED strips with a neutral white light color (approx. 4,000 K) for optimal work light or warm white (2,700K) for a cozy atmosphere.

Simple installation in just a few steps

With LED strips, lighting without drilling is easier than ever

Here’s how it works:

  1. Prepare the surface: Make sure the area is clean, dry, and grease-free.
  2.  Adjust the LED strips: If necessary, you can cut them at the marked points.
  3. Peel off the protective film & stick on: Press the LED strip evenly onto the desired surface.
  4. Connect & control: Depending on the model, you can operate the LEDs via socket, USB, or battery.
  5. Enjoy the light!

Tip: If the self-adhesive backing is not sufficient, you can use stronger mounting tape or magnetic clips.

Battery lights: The perfect choice for stylish accent lighting

Battery lights are the ideal choice if you want to create targeted light accents in your rental apartment – completely without drilling or permanent installation. Whether for a cozy bedside lamp, indirect light in the living room, or a flexible pendant light without drilling, these cordless lights offer maximum flexibility and can be placed exactly where they are needed.

Thanks to their rechargeable battery, they do not require a permanent power connection, so unsightly cables or sockets are not in the way. Especially for cabinet lighting, shelf lights, or decorative wall lamps without drilling, battery lights are an elegant and simple solution.

Possible applications:

  •  Bedside lamps without drilling
Perfect for soft light by the bed – simply set up or attach with adhesive pads.
  • Attach pendant lights without drilling
Light battery-operated pendant lights can be mounted on the ceiling with adhesive hooks or magnets and provide stylish lighting above the dining table or in the reading corner.
  • Cabinet and shelf lighting
LED battery spots or light strips showcase bookshelves, wardrobes, or open kitchen shelves beautifully.
  • Indirect lighting for living room & hallway
Dimmable lights or battery-operated lights with motion sensors are ideal for cozy accents in the living area or as soft night lighting in the hallway.

Why are battery-operated lights perfect for accent lighting?

Advantages of battery-operated lights for decorative lighting:

  •  No drilling or screws required – ideal for rental apartments
  • Wireless & flexible use – from bedside lamps to pendant lights without drilling
  • Rechargeable & energy-saving – long-lasting batteries, often with USB charging
  • Smart features – many models are dimmable or controllable via app
Why are adhesive pads & mounting adhesives a perfect alternative?

Advantages:

  • Quick & easy installation: Installed in just a few minutes – perfect for spontaneous interior design.
  • Suitable for various types of lamps: From LED panels, wall lights  to lightceiling lights .
  • Maximum flexibility: If you want to relocate your lamp, many adhesive solutions can be easily removed.

Not every lamp can be easily glued. Particularly suitable are:

  • LED panels & LED strips: Ideal for adhesive mounting due to their low weight.
  • Flat ceiling lights: Especially modern, lightweight models with a large surface area adhere optimally.
  • Small wall lights: Perfect for decorative accent lighting.
  • Battery-operated lights: Since they do not require a power connection, they can be flexibly attached using adhesive techniques.

Tip: When making your selection, pay attention to the weight of the light – the lighter, the better the adhesive mounting holds!

What should I do?

Step 1: Prepare the surface

To ensure the lamp holds securely, the surface must be clean, dry, and grease-free.

  • Smooth, dry & stable: Ideal surfaces include glass, tiles, metal, or painted wood surfaces.
  •  Cleaning: Use a grease-dissolving cleaner (e.g., glass cleaner or isopropanol) to remove dust and dirt.
  • Rough walls? Adhesive techniques often do not hold optimally here – in this case, mounting adhesive is the better choice.

Step 2: Choose the right mounting method

Option 1: Adhesive pads & double-sided mounting tape

  • For light LED lights, LED strips & small wall lamps
  • Immediately loadable, removable without residue

Here's how:

  1. Stick adhesive pads or double-sided mounting tape on the back of the lamp.
  2. Remove the protective film and press the lamp to the desired location.
  3. Press firmly for a few seconds to ensure a good bond.

Tip: 3M adhesive pads or Tesa Powerstrips provide particularly strong hold!

Option 2: Mounting glue for a permanent attachment

  • For medium to heavier lamps or rough surfaces
  • High load capacity, holds even on uneven walls

Here's how:

  1. Apply a thin layer of mounting glue (e.g. Pattex or UHU mounting glue).
  2. Press the lamp to the desired location and briefly secure it.
  3. Observe the drying time (depending on the glue 12–24 hours).

Tip: Mounting glue is a permanent solution – to remove it later, the glue must be cut with a utility knife.

Step 4: Align lamp & check

  • Align straight: Use a level or an app to ensure the lamp is straight.
  •  Test load capacity: Before switching on, carefully check if the adhesive installation holds.
  • Conceal any cables: You can discreetly lay loose cables with adhesive cable channels or clips.

Tip: If you're unsure, try the lamp first with lightly adhesive pads before securing it permanently.

Step 5: Removing the lamp without damage

If you want to remove the lamp later, it's best to do it this way:

  •  Adhesive pads & mounting tape: Gently warm with a hairdryer, then carefully detach with a dental floss thread or spatula.
  •  Mounting glue: Slide a utility knife under the lamp and slowly detach, remove any glue residue with cooking oil or adhesive remover.

Tip: If you live in a rented apartment, test the adhesive technique in an inconspicuous place first!
