Home is increasingly becoming a retreat that should radiate genuine personality and a cosy atmosphere. For our outlook on the living trends 2027, we spoke with experienced interior designer Irene Werner.
You can find out which living trends await us in 2027, which ones we can safely leave behind, and how the right lighting transforms rooms in this article.
At the start, Irene Werner made one thing clear: “Honestly, I’m neither a trend follower nor a trendsetter.” Instead of following blind hype, she advises planning in a fully individual way. One must always make a conscious decision about whether one is following a living trend only because it is currently in fashion, or whether they really like it so much that they want to live with it for years to come. According to her, the actual home trend is anyway moving more toward personal interior design.
Her guiding principle for the coming year is therefore appropriately:
"Feel more and need less."
skapetze®: Ms Werner, your guiding principle is “Feel more and need less.” In the past, luxury in interiors often meant excess. How would you describe your personal definition of luxury for the 2027 interior trends?
Irene Werner: Well, for me, luxury is not the most expensive or extravagant furniture, but really carefully chosen pieces that I can keep for a long time. Luxury now also means having more calm in the living space. The furnishings should not only look beautiful, but also be functional and durable in order to be considered luxurious.
The skapetze® lighting tip:
That very conscious decision in favour of quality is reflected in our s.luce lights. We believe that lights should not be replaced after one season or a fleeting home trend. A s.luce light combines high-quality materials with thoughtful functionality and timeless design - a piece of furniture that enhances a room for years and effortlessly stands up to any future home trend.
Because we are completely convinced of this durability, we reinforce this quality promise with the s.luce manufacturer's warranty. This turns lighting into a secure, long-term investment in real cosiness.
Anyone who wants to experience this long-lasting quality will find the right lights for every interior trend in our s.luce catalogue.
skapetze®: What is your ultimate tip for instantly adding warmth and cosiness to a room?
Irene Werner: Definitely work with wood. That really brings warmth into a home. I also like working with travertine stone. It is very timeless and has a warm tone.
The skapetze® lighting tip:
You can bring the warm, earthy character of natural stone straight into your living room with our s.luce travertine lights. The light perfectly brings this open-pored, natural material into focus. This lets you create a completely timeless natural interior trend.
In addition, the designer recommends the following for the 2027 living trends:
- Natural textiles: Linen and wool, for example as floor-to-ceiling curtains, instantly make rooms feel more homely.
- Earthy colour palettes: Sand tones, natural tones or calming eucalyptus and sage shades create a base that evokes nature.
- Organic shapes: Whether in rugs or furniture - soft, organic shapes replace hard architectural lines and define the living trends.
skapetze®: Which living trends can we leave behind in 2027?
Irene Werner: Rooms that look like they came straight from a catalogue. Customers no longer want to live as if from a catalogue, but place value on personality - a deliberate style break is also expressly desired. To emphasise this personal sense of comfort, the right lighting is crucial: Ideally, you should always plan three types of lighting. These are general lighting, accent lighting and indirect lighting.
The skapetze® lighting tip:
Move away from perfect uniformity and towards a statement piece! Instead of lighting a room evenly and impersonally, we recommend playing with different light sources to suit this living trend. A large, striking pendant light forms a wonderful contrast in style, while indirect light from wall lights takes away the room’s cool austerity.
According to interior designer Irene Werner, a room only fully comes into its own through the combination of three types of light. Only then do structure, depth and cosy shadow play emerge:
1. General lighting (orientation): The bright base for everyday use. It illuminates the room evenly — ideal for rough orientation or cleaning. (Ideal: Ceiling lights)
2. Accent lighting (focus): It deliberately highlights specific areas, pictures or special decorative elements. (Ideal: Pendant lights or spots)
3. Indirect lighting (atmosphere): The secret to real cosiness. The soft light does not dazzle, shines against the walls and casts soft shadows. (Ideal: Wall lights or LED strips)
skapetze®: Will glass elements also be used increasingly in 2027?
Irene Werner: Yes, absolutely. I particularly like working with glass loft doors, as they visually open up rooms and do not make passages appear completely closed off. This airy transparency can be perfectly continued in lighting; especially in high galleries, I am happy to recommend glass pendant lights.
The skapetze® lighting tip:
This airy openness can be perfectly combined with the wide variety of our s.luce glass lights bring out. Whether it is the tinted shades of the s.luce Echos, the teardrop shape of the Belluna or the multi-flame Cruet light – glass does not obstruct sight lines and creates a wonderfully light impression. This allows you to skilfully embrace the trend towards transparency and provide brilliant light that stands out especially in high galleries or above the dining table.
To round off our interview, we asked interior designer Irene Werner for a few quick decisions. In our short either-or round, she reveals her very personal design favourites for the coming year - brief and to the point.
Warm metals, but used selectively.
A deliberate break in style. I like it when another style is brought in, perhaps an old chest of drawers from grandma.
A large statement piece.
Organic shapes.
Light as a work of art, definitely. Lighting must always look beautiful.
Light in the living trends of 2027 is far more than just brightness at the touch of a button. It is the element that first gives a room its soul. Well-planned lighting highlights architecture, showcases selected materials such as travertine or glass, and casts fascinating shadows that bring the space to life.
Be inspired by our s.luce collections and turn your home into your very own work of art with the perfect lighting concept!
“I see light as a work of art. By using different layers of light, you create a play of shadows that gives the home structure and depth.”
