Bauhaus Lampen - the classics

Hardly any company had such a major impact on architecture, art and design like the state Bauhaus in 1919–1933. This also resulted in the well -known "Bauhaus lamps and lights" for wall, ceiling, table and floor. The main goal of the art school was to develop rational designs and designs on design currents that form worldwide.

Hardly any company had such a major impact on architecture, art and design like the state Bauhaus in 1919–1933. The main goal of the art school was to develop rational designs and designs on design currents that form worldwide. Today it is part of different living styles.

What is the Bauhaus?

In 1919 Walter Gropius founded the state Bauhaus in Weimar, Thuringia. Although the Bauhaus only existed for 14 years, the influence on construction and design continues to this day. Gropius and his colleagues wanted to create a total work of art that uses the possibility of industrial production and thus combines art, architecture and craft.

Many Bauhaus works seem strict and functional because of their angular lines. In their simplicity, however, there is also the secret of timeless elegance, which all the glow distinguishes to this day.

The icon of modern design

The state-owned Bauhaus produced numerous timeless Bauhaus lamps. The best known of this is the WG 24, which was designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld and can be found in our lighting shop under the Tecnolumen brand. The lamp follows the design principle "Form follows function" and at the same time is considered an icon of modern industrial design.

The Wagenfeld WG24

Wilhelm Wagenfeld was born in Bremen in 1900 and worked as a silversmith, teacher and designer. From 1923 to 1925 he studied at the Bauhaus and worked in the metal workshop, where he passed the journeyman's examination as a silversmith in 1924. He also led this from 1928–1930. Little by little he turned to the work on lights, and in 1924 in cooperation with Carl Jakob Jucker the Wagenfeld lamp WG24, which wrote history.

Your glass umbrella, the glass or metal shaft and the round base plate are characteristic. It is considered an icon of industrial design and the prototype of the Bauhaus lamps. A first attempt to sell them on a larger scale in 1924 failed because many components had to be made very complex by hand. The German lamp label tecnolumen is the only manufacturer worldwide with a license from Wilhelm Wagenfeld, which can reproduce and manufacture the Bauhaus lights Wagenfeld.

Material of Bauhaus lights

In addition to the steel tube and plywood, panel glass was one of the preferred materials on the Bauhaus. Glass was considered to be a source of supply to architecture and industry and, because of its transparency, often served as a connecting element within a furniture or a light.
