When installing recessed spotlights on the patio and around the house, safety is paramount

, especially in areas where it gets wet or rainy. There is an important feature here that will definitely help you decide on a light! The IP number, also known as the protection class, determines how well a luminaire is protected against the ingress of water. To help you get started, we'll briefly explain what the numbers mean.

The most important protection classes of outdoor LED spots and recessed LED luminaires at a glance

• IP20: Corresponds to a luminaire for indoor areas and has no protection against water
• IP44: Is splash-proof and can be installed in a bathroom (certain areas)
• IP65: Is protected against water jets if the luminaire is exposed to a direct water jet
• IP67: A lamp is completely waterproof when temporarily submerged in water
• IP68: Perfectly suited for pools, as the lights are waterproof when permanently submerged in water

What should you look out for when buying outdoor recessed lights?

Very important here: How much space do I have for my lights? In particular, 230V recessed LED spotlights with a shallow installation depth or recessed LED spotlights without a transformer should be well planned. Before you buy an outdoor light, find out the maximum depth of the light and where and what power you have available! The shape and color are also important factors. An installation depth of 10 to 12 cm is often quite normal. What is important is in or on which surface the light is installed and whether certain precautions should be taken before purchasing.

Outdoor LED recessed spotlight 230V, Yes or no?

Low-voltage or high-voltage? That is the crucial question. There are 12V and 24V in the low-voltage range. In the high-voltage range, the voltage corresponds to 220-230V. Recessed LED lights that work with low voltage have a transformer in the system.

Are there swivel spotlights for outdoors?

Light in different directions can be so easy! You need swivel recessed spotlights for this. These are of course also available for outdoor use.
