Presence Sensor

A presence sensor, also known as a presence detector, is a more precise version of a motion detector. A presence sensor detects even the slightest movements in a room and is used, for example, to prevent the lights from turning off. Some office lights are equipped with a presence sensor, as it detects even quiet activities or people sitting still. If no movement is detected for a certain period of time, the corresponding light turns off, which can result in significant energy savings. To expand the detection range of a presence sensor and ensure that people are within the detection area, it is recommended to mount the sensor on the ceiling. In larger rooms, presence detectors can also be networked with one another to prevent the lighting from turning off locally when part of the room is unoccupied. When purchasing a light fixture with a presence sensor, particular attention should be paid to its range, as movement needs to be detected within a smaller or larger area depending on the room’s size. If a single sensor is insufficient, additional “slave” sensors can be installed and connected to the main sensor.
