The Origins
The Luci d'Oro model is based on reflections on the colour of light: the golden light of the sun, of fire; warm lights in which the concept of refraction takes shape in Enzo Catellani's mind and often later gives rise to other creations.
The Luce D'Oro Tavolo table lamp by Catellani & Smith creates an indirect and extremely cozy light that creates a deep feeling of well-being. The table lamp is made of iron, brass and aluminum and has a strong, flexible arm that can be shaped in any direction and that also holds a reflector disc covered in gold or silver leaf. The main weight of the lamp body rests on the square, waxed iron base. A second, smaller flexible arm protrudes just below the disc, at the head of which is the actual light source. The cold light reflector lamp used is extravagantly hidden in a classic lamp holder. The light directed onto the disc IS reflected indirectly, as the object lights up from within itself. The light from this lamp corresponds to the magic of the eyes, the warmth of the fire, the preciousness of a pure lump of gold in the midst of a thousand worthless stones. In the gold and copper versions, the other parts are made of brass, in the silver version they are made of nickel.
