Luminous flux

Luminous flux is measured in lumens (abbreviated as lm). This refers to the radiant flux or light output, which is aLight source ultimately radiates. This means that with the unit Lumen indicates how bright a light is.

This value is therefore always specified by the manufacturer for lamps; however, luminous flux does not provide information about the spatial distribution of light radiation, but rather takes into account brightness alone. What is factored into the lumen value, however, is the sensitivity of the human eye, since it reacts differently to different wavelengths. Thus, luminous flux is specified as a weighted value.

Typical luminous flux values are about 1,400 lumens from a 100-Watt-Light bulb, a single-ended halogen lamp with up to 41,000 lumens and 230 as well as 806 lumens fromLED Filament bulbs. By comparison, a candle has a luminous flux of only about 10 lumens and therefore does not shine very brightly.
