The Interior Trends 2026: An Interview with Designer Anja Gödecke

Anja Gödecke sitzt links auf einem Sofa und wird von einem skapetze®-Mitarbeiter mit einem Mikrofon interviewt, in einem modern eingerichteten Raum mit Holzlamellenwand und Spiegel.

Anja Gödecke explains which interior trends await us in 2026. The designer also reveals how she brings a sense of well-being into your rooms.

Interior Design and the homely sense of well-being

Interior Trends 2026 go far beyond furnishing alone. It is no longer just about furniture, colors, or decoration, but about the feeling a room evokes. Anja Gödecke and her company “Wohlgefühl Design” are dedicated to precisely this feeling.

With “Wohlgefühl Design,” Anja is fulfilling her lifelong dream. Interior design has been Anja’s passion since she was twelve years old. For a long time, however, she only helped friends with their interiors. The decisive impulse to turn her passion into a profession came from someone very special:

“Mom, you do that so well, make it your job already,” her son told her a few years ago.

That said, done. And the name of her company also has a special meaning for Anja. “The name came from recurring thoughts of well-being,” the designer explains. For her, a home is more than a beautifully furnished room. Well-being only arises in a place where you truly arrive in your heart. Anja is convinced: “That changes your whole life.”

Today, she designs spaces that not only impress visually, but also touch people. And that is exactly what makes her an exciting voice within the Interior Trends. You can find out what Anja’s favorite lamps are, and where light is most underestimated, in the interview.

skapetze®: Anja, what is the most important factor in modern interior design for you?

Anja: For me, it is clearly light. It is the most important design element of all. In the end, I want to see my customers’ eyes light up, and that is exactly what you achieve only with the right light.

skapetze®:  What role does a ceiling light play here?

Anja: A ceiling light is much more than just a light source. It defines the mood of a room and often its entire character. Many people underestimate that. Yet there is incredible power in the decorative impact of a light. The right lamp can truly transform a room, either very subtly or as a clear statement.

Anja Gödecke finds her personal sense of well-being in the right light. Here with the beautiful Orb gallery lamp from s.luce.

Pendant Lights as a Favourite Piece in the Room

skapetze®:Do you have a light that you particularly like to use?

Anja: Yes, definitely the pendant light. For me, it is simply unbeatable.

I very often work with several pendant lights in one room. At first, clients are sometimes still reserved, but in the end they are always enthusiastic. Pendant lights attract attention and immediately give the room a special effect.

Especially in the current interior trends, you can see that the pendant light is much more than just lighting. It is a real design statement.

Small Light Sources with a Big Impact:

skapetze®:What role do smaller lights play in the overall concept?

Anja: A very big one. A table lamp is perfect, for example, for the evening to gently illuminate smaller areas. It brings calm to the room.

Floor lamps are also important floor lamps. They can create atmosphere or set targeted highlights. Especially in the area of furniture lighting, this creates a completely different depth. This combination of different light sources is an important part of interior trends.

How Light Changes Spaces

skapetze®: You often say that spaces change through light. What do you mean by that?

Anja: A room is not static, but changes. It almost has different personalities: during the day it appears clear and functional, in the evening it becomes warm and emotional. Solely through light.

Luminaires unfold their full effect here. This shows how important good interior lighting is.

During the day, lamps are often a beautiful decorative element and part of the interior design

In the evening, lamps change the entire feel of the room

Targeted lighting design is one of the most important trends for me

I particularly like the Santa Deep LED recessed spotlight from s.luce. This lamp can be dimmed as well as swivelled. It therefore stands out in particular for the various ways in which a lamp and its light can be adapted to the circumstances, thus giving the room the right atmosphere.

skapetze®: In which rooms do you think light is most underestimated?

Anja: Clearly in the kitchen, bedroom and dining area.

It is precisely there that the combination of ceiling light, wall light and table lamp makes the difference.

A wall light, for example, provides indirect light and creates a very calm, pleasant atmosphere. Many people think of lighting only in terms of brightness, but it is actually about much more. It is about how a room feels.

Conclusion: Interior trends 2026 are more emotional than ever

The interior trends 2026 show a clear development: spaces should not only look good, they should feel good too. And that is exactly where the strength of light lies. Light is far more than just functional illumination. It is a central design element that transforms spaces, creates atmosphere, and evokes emotions.

Whether pendant light, ceiling light, table lamp, or wall light: each individual lamp helps bring rooms to life. The combination of different light sources is especially what makes the difference. It creates depth, structure, and a real sense of well-being in the room. It is not about blindly following trends, but about using the right impulses in a targeted way.

Anja Gödecke puts it perfectly:

  • Less decoration, more impact.
  • Less rules, more feeling.

And that is exactly what makes these new interior trends so exciting for anyone who does not just want to furnish their home, but truly experience it.
