With recessed spotlights on the patio, safety is the be-all and end-all!

Especially in areas where it gets damp or rains, this is a top priority. There is an important feature here that will definitely help you decide on a luminaire! The IP number, also known as the protection class, determines how well a luminaire is protected against water penetration. To help you get started, we will briefly explain what the following numbers mean.

  • IP20: Corresponds to a luminaire for indoor use and has no protection against water
  • IP44: Is splash-proof and can be installed in a bathroom (certain areas)
  • IP65: Is protected against water jets when the luminaire is directly exposed to water
  • IP67: A lamp is completely waterproof when temporarily immersed in water
  • IP68: Perfectly suited for pools, where the luminaire is waterproof for permanent immersion in water.

What should I look for when buying outdoor recessed lamps?

The most important thing here is: How much space do I have for my luminaires?

Especially dimmable LED recessed spotlights with 230v and shallow recess depth or Led recessed spotlights without transformer need to be well planned. Before you buy a luminaire, find out the maximum depth of the luminaire, where it can be installed and what current you have available! Shape and colour also play important roles here.

Do you want square recessed luminaires in stainless steel or round recessed spotlights in white? LED recessed spotlights with motion detectors are also an important issue. Especially around the front door or behind the house.

Often, a recess depth of 10 cm to 12 cm is quite normal. It is also important in or on which surface the luminaire sits and whether certain precautions should be taken before purchase.

If you want to install the luminaires in a wall, ceiling or floor, the cut-out for the lamps is also of interest. A suitable hole must be created in the substrate for the lamps. You will find everything important under Dimensions and functions on the article page.

LED recessed spotlights with replaceable lamps

Do you want a lot or a little light? Should it be Dimmable ? Do you want to change the colours? You should ask yourself these questions before you decide on a luminaire and especially on a  light source. But which is the right one?

Adapt your light source to the circumstances. Even a permanently installed LED need not be a disadvantage . Many manufacturers are trying to make built-in Led Spot more durable and more powerful.

Consumption is also an advantage of the diodes installed, as a minimum of wattage means maximum luminosity. But GU10 also impresses with its ability.

Decide to use a Led lamp that can be controlled. This way, you are more flexible and can do without the time-consuming installation of a switch. In this case, the luminaire can be operated comfortably from the armchair by remote control. Some of our systems such as iLight or Connect are convincing with their quality and can be used in many ways.

Outdoor Led recessed spotlights 230V, yes or no?

In the low-voltage range, there are 12V and 24V. In the high-voltage range, the voltage is 220-230V. It is important that LED recessed luminaires that work with low voltage have a transformer in the system.

This means that a cable runs from the power outlet to the transformer and then into the luminaire. If you want to dim the luminaires via a switch rather than via the light source, the transformers must be dimmable.

Low-voltage luminaires are particularly suitable for outdoor use, as this is of course always somewhat safer. If you are planning something larger or need our help, you are welcome to use our lighting design services.

We look forward to hearing from you!
