Does my garden floor lamp have to meet certain requirements?
Yes! An outdoor luminaire must generally be well protected from the elements, because electricity and water are not a good combination. When you buy an outdoor floor lamp, you should definitely pay attention to the specified protection class (abbreviated to IP). This indicates how strongly your luminaire is protected against water and dirt such as dust particles.
For indoor use, a protection class of IP20 is sufficient, whereas for outdoor use, such as on your terrace, at least protection class IP44 is required. With this protection class, the outdoor lamp is protected against splashing water and objects such as dust grains with a diameter of one millimetre and more. The higher the number, the better the outdoor floor lamp is protected.
