The long road to becoming a top designer

Ingo Maurer grew up together with four siblings as the son of a fisherman on the island of Reichenau on Lake Constance. His future was already planned: He was supposed to follow in his father's footsteps one day. But he decided against it and began an apprenticeship as a typographer and completed his graphic design studies in Munich a few years later. To further his career, he left Germany in 1960 and went to the USA, where he worked as a freelance graphic designer in San Francisco and New York for the next three years.

Foundation of Ingo Maurer GmbH

in 1963, his path led him back to Germany where he founded the company Design M, today known as "Ingo Maurer GmbH". Here he produced lamps according to his sketches and ideas. In the following years he became more and more famous and successful with his technical developments like the YaYaHo, a low voltage halogen system and his eye-catching designs like the "Bulb". This is now part of the renowned design collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Over the years, he has received countless awards and prizes.

One of the most popular Ingo Maurer models is the Zettelz 6 pendant luminaire with 80 individual sheets of Japanese paper that can be written on. The owner of the luminaire can influence the optical effect of the pendant luminaire himself by inserting the paper strips in different ways. In any case, grandiose light effects are created that are beautifully distributed in the room.

Poems, wishes or notes can be written on the slips of paper. Thus, the luminaire also finds its practical use in everyday life

The Ingo Maurer Oh.LED.One table lamp proves that the German manufacturer also relies on the most modern lighting technology. This desk lamp equipped with OLED modules consists of glass, stainless steel and plastic. The individual elements of the desk lamp are held together by a filigree structure.
