Where are you, Edison, ...? INGO MAURER 1997 / Acrylic glass, aluminium, hologram 360°.
The extremely eye-catching pendant lamp Where are you, Edison,...? was handcrafted by Ingo Maurer in 1997. Where are you Edison,...? is the big brother and predecessor of the equally unique Ingo Maurer pendant lamp Eddie's Son from 2005. A holographic emulsion is specially applied to each glass cylinder by using a laser and a complicated chemical development process to create a microscopically fine interference relief in the emulsion layer. In this way, Ingo Maurer creates a brilliant one-of-a-kind from each of these design lamps, which, through interaction (absorption and reflection) with the illuminant of Wo bist du Edison,...? creates the impression of a virtual light bulb - an amazing effect that is guaranteed not to miss its mark. On closer inspection, the viewer can even answer the question "Where are you Edison...?" for himself. The silhouette of Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of the carbon filament light bulb, is immortalised in the lamp holder.
