Plinth luminaires are the small versions of the familiar Pole lights. A crucial element is, as the name suggests, the base on which the basic body of the luminaire sits. Walls or pillars usually serve as such a base. Thus, base lamps are sometimes also referred to as pillar luminaires.

This type of lighting is particularly popular for outdoor use as a Path lighting. In many outdoor areas, such as for example in the garden, on the terrace or in the entrance area, these Outdoor lamps very often represented and are convincing in many respects. Plinth luminaires are used to illuminate areas close to the ground and usually have a height of between 40 cm and 50 cm.

Not just a visual feature, but also a safety feature.

Outdoor luminaires not only make for a more attractive appearance but, used as path lighting, also provide the necessary safety when walking through the dark. Another safety feature provided by outdoor lighting is burglary protection.

If the garden area or driveway is equipped with lights, burglars will not find their way to the house under cover of darkness. If there is a house with lighting and next to it a house without lighting, the logical choice is the house in the dark.

Special outdoor design.

However, skirting luminaires serve not only as a safety factor but also as a visual highlight. They can be used very well for accent lighting for plants or shrubs, for example. These outdoor lamps are equally well suited for stylish lighting of the driveway or the path to the house.

There is now an enormous selection of path lighting, bollard or pillar luminaires and plinth luminaires. So the modern lamps convince with materials like stainless steel or aluminium. Also Anthracite plinth lamps are very popular and harmonise in modern garden areas or driveways.

There is also a choice of classic lamps, vintage-look base lamps or antique base lamps. Inmost gardens, you will also find the popular globe luminaires. In this version, the frame is crowned by a luminous sphere .

The round body in opal white creates a particularly beautiful impression and looks very noble. The light is so softly glare-free that the surroundings are evenly illuminated. This variety means that the right outdoor lighting can be found for every home.

Quality outdoors - What needs to be considered?

When it comes to path, bollard or base luminaires, it is essential to ensure that they are of the right quality. Because the luminaire is constantly used outdoors, it is exposed to weather conditions such as rain, hail, snow or sunlight. To ensure long-lasting enjoyment of individual lighting in the garden, on the patio or driveway, attention should be paid to the protection class, test marks and the material.

The minimum requirement for outdoor lighting is IP44 protection. This feature describes protection against splashing water from all sides. For IP44, the second digit "4" refers to water protection. The first digit means that foreign bodies with a diameter of one millimetre or more cannot get through these models. Fine dust can enter, but insects or dirt cannot.

Once you have found the right luminaire, the question is where to mount it. Often, these outdoor luminaires are placed on an elevation such as a wall. They can then be screwed directly to the base. On the ground, base luminaires should be mounted on a frost-proof foundation or a similarly firm base. This ensures that the luminaire is not knocked over and damaged by the wind or other influences.

However, those who prefer lighting in the garden or other green spaces should opt for a ground spike . This way, you can try out and reposition according to your needs, whims and fancies. You can set the scene for a special bush, enhance the flower bed or create special accents.

Once the right place has been found for the new base luminaire, it's time to install it. In general, amateur craftsmen should not try their hand when it comes to electrics. For lighting that is connected to the mains via underground cables, it is essential to consult professionals or at least ask for advice.

If you want to cut down on the cost of specialist staff, the tangle of cables and all the hassle behind the installation , solar-powered pedestal or bollard lights are the best solution. In addition, solar lights are not only practical but also more environmentally friendly. Electricity costs are also saved and you are much more flexible with placement.

Great additional features of pedestal lights.

In addition to the ability to charge via the sun, there are also other base luminaires with great additional features. For example, there is the choice of a luminaire with a motion detector, which is a very popular feature of modern lighting. The light only comes on when someone enters the movement radius. This saves electricity or money and, in the case of solar-powered luminaires, the battery is conserved.

Here, the angle of detection should be taken into account and set correctly. If the angle is too large, neighbouring properties or streets can trigger the lamps. If the angle is too small, the exact position has to be found and you have to search around in the dark for a long time. The radius should be adjusted individually to guarantee pleasant lighting.
