It all began in Bergamo
There are many myths and rumours about the founding of the Italian lighting manufacturer Catellani & Smith. They themselves tell the story of Carlo Catellani, who decided in 1985 together with the British architect Logan Smith to design high-quality lamps for the luxury sector. That this fairy-tale company history was more marketing than reality became apparent at the latest when it was discovered that Logan Smith was a horse.
But what you can be sure of is that behind this exciting manufacturer is the design genius Enzo Catellani. After his breakthrough at the Frankfurt Fair in 1989, one of the most important interior design fairs of the modern age, Catellani launched a company that was to stand for the highest level of craftsmanship and Italian design. This guideline is still proven at Catellani & Smith 30 years after the company was founded.
