The unique Fil de fer luminaire wire ball luminaire from the Italian manufacturer Catellani & Smith was invented and designed by Enzo Catellani in 2002. The lamp was not initially launched on the market, as it was made for a specific order, but was not used for the actual project. It was to be produced for the museum "Museo della Cartografia di Stato - Fontana di Trevi" in Rome. The lamp for the museum was ultimately designed quite differently, but the prototype remained. Since everyone who saw the lamp was fascinated by it and saw something magical in it, Catellani decided to continue working on it. Finally, it became the most representative model of Enzo Catellani and the pioneer of the lamp series of the same name.

Handmade design lamp made of wire

The lamp has been manufactured for Catellani & Smith and stands as an extraordinary highlight in the interior as well as in the exterior. It is made of modelled and braided aluminium wire and gives the room a poetic light incidence. The handmade model is lovingly processed and high value is placed on the high-quality workmanship. The extravagant lamp is supposed to remind of, as quoted by Enzo Catellani, "the rolling bushes blown by the wind through the Mexican desert".

Where does the name "Fil de fer" come from?

The name Fil de fer design lamp comes from the French and means "wire of iron". Its incomparable weave and its many small LED lamps are available in two versions. It can be used as Floor lamp as a luminaire, but it can also be used as a Pendant light it gives a warm and pleasant appearance. It is infinitely adjustable by a cord dimmer and can be set up according to the desired brightness.Its artistic accent creates an individual room atmosphere.

Fil de Fer as a real lamp classic

The Fil de fer is a very luxurious lamp and belongs to the modern lamp classics. Like the Fil de fer, the Fil de fer CW Ovale can be mounted indoors and outdoors. It is equipped with 20 LED lamps and can be produced in gold and aluminium. It, too, can be adjusted to different brightness levels by means of an external phase cut-off dimmer.

The unusual shade creates playful light and shadow effects. The gold-plated version conjures up warm, sunny light accents, which in turn are reminiscent of the universe. The metal version with an aluminium look, on the other hand, seems rather sober. Both models are extravagant, noble and outstanding in their own way, but the Fil der fer prototype is the more special variant.
