This design from 1924 by Wilhelm Wagenfeld is called "The Bauhaus Lamp" and certainly deserves this name. The characteristic shape, which is primarily characterised by clarity and the highest level of craftsmanship, is an eye-catcher in itself. The diffuser in the form of a glass spherical segment emits the light softly and evenly into the room.
Wagenfeld designed this masterpiece at the age of 24 at the Weimar Bauhaus as a commission from the head of the metal workshops, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. According to Wagenfeld's attitude towards the Bauhaus, products designed here should have an industrial character. In reality, the luminaire is handmade, just like the luminaires from Tecnolumen that bear the name "Wagenfeld" and are produced as the only authorised re-editions.
These lamps are manufactured individually and numbered consecutively. This number is in context with the Bauhaus and Tecnolumen sign, which can also be found on the base of the luminaire. "The Bauhaus Lamp" is a masterpiece that illustrates the philosophy of the State Bauhaus in Weimar and documents the turn of the manufacturer Tecnolumen towards this type of design.
This luminaire by Wagenfeld was honoured with the Federal German Design Award "Gute Form" in 1982 and is also one of the "Best 200 Designs for the Year 2000".
