This table lamp designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld in 1924 is often referred to as "The Bauhaus Lamp". The spherical lampshade made of white opal glass emits light evenly and gently into the surrounding room.
At the age of 24, Wagenfeld designed this masterpiece of industrial design at the Weimar Bauhaus as part of a commission from the head of the metal workshops, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. According to Wagenfeld's attitude towards Bauhaus designs, products designed here should have an industrial character and look accordingly. In fact, however, the luminaire is handmade, just like the luminaires from Tecnolumen, which are manufactured according to Wagenfeld's designs.
Thus, the consecutive numbering of the luminaires in connection with the Bauhaus and Tecnolumen sign is understood as a homage to this unique design. "The Bauhaus Lamp" is considered a masterpiece that on the one hand illustrates the philosophy of the Bauhaus and on the other hand documents the manufacturer Tecnolumen's dedication to this type of design.
This luminaire by Wagenfeld was awarded the Federal German Design Prize "Gute Form" in 1982 and is also one of the "Best 200 Designs for the Year 2000".
